Important Update for families - Cochrane Care Home

Following further changes in Government guidance, we have been working hard to ensure we are aligned to this and continue to adapt the way we work to keep our residents, you, their loved ones, and our staff as safe as possible.

I am writing to advise you the steps that we plan on implementing over the coming months as we strive to enable you to visit your loved ones which we realise is hugely important to all.

Scotland’s new 5 level system has been introduced whereby level 0 and 1 allows for indoor visits for those residents who are not able to have outdoor visits, and visiting outdoors or in designated visiting ‘areas’, where available.

Level 2, 3 and 4 allow for outdoor visits and visiting in visiting areas, again where available, but unfortunately not any indoor visits.

Visitors can still make essential compassionate visits at end of life in all levels.

At the time of writing, Greater Glasgow and Clyde and therefore Cochrane Care Home, is within Tier 3.

Key Steps to Facilitate Visits

While we are extremely supportive of visits, certain measures need to be adopted before the reintroduction of visiting, or progression to the next stage including individual care homes undertaking risk assessments and developing visiting protocol from the local Health Protection team. We must also ensure that visitors comply with protocol, including good hand hygiene, wearing face masks and maintaining 2 metres physical distance.
Subject to approval, we intend to make use of COVID safe designated visiting areas, window visits and outdoor visits. We are also in the process of reviewing all garden areas within our grounds in the hope that, where possible, we can facilitate safe and warm outdoor visiting.

As part of future communication, we will specify for each home how to go about arranging visits. We will also update our website (www.silverlinecare.com) with the latest information;

In the meantime, if you would like to schedule a “virtual visit” with your relative, you can do so by visiting our website at silverlinecare.com where you can arrange video and voice calls by clicking the ‘contact us’ button.
To further protect residents and their families, we are rolling out electronic temperature checking equipment and sign-in facilities in each home.

To facilitate this, please only enter the home after being granted access by a member of our staff. We would then appreciate if you sign in and out of these on arrival and departure to ensure that we track and control visitors to the home and keep all residents and their families as safe as possible.

While we will do everything we can to support visits, guidance dictates a care home only considers visiting if they have been COVID free / or fully recovered as agreed with the local health protection team for 28 days from the last date of a positive test or symptoms of COVID as appropriate.

Therefore, it is likely that over the coming weeks, visiting opportunities at some of our homes will vary to others. We appreciate this may be difficult and thank you in advance for your understanding.

For our part, we will do all we can to facilitate safe visiting. We understand plans are being developed by the government to allow specific family and friends to visit care homes supported by testing and we look forward to receiving more information on this. We appreciate this is a difficult time for many but we would ask you to allow our homes time to adapt to future changes in guidance and encourage contacting the home before planning a visit.
