Care Home Open Day a huge success at Newark Care Home

Residents, staff, family members and the local community celebrated Care Home Open Day at Newark Care Home in Port Glasgow on Friday (16th June). The home asked residents what they would most like to do to mark the day, and they decided on inviting local community groups for a big lunch. Local Youth Group L-Zone and the nearby sheltered housing complex, as well as family members and a Care Home Education Facilitator from the University of the West of Scotland, joined for a day of music, food and fun. All guests were given a champagne reception on arrival, followed by a homemade lunch and tea and cakes. Moira Roberts, Newark Care Home manager said: “We had lovely feedback from everyone who came along, they all seemed to enjoy the afternoon and both the Youth Group and local sheltered housing complex have invited us back to theirs as a thank you. “What a lovely opportunity it is to be part of such a great community and make new friends.” Care Home Open Day has been running for five years and aims to emphasise the importance of connecting local communities, developing lasting relationships and encouraging intergenerational rapport.
